Frequently asked questions
What people ask us most on the phone, grouped by service. If yours isn’t here, call: we answer just as fast on the call.
Before you call
What are your hours?
Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. We work by appointment, so call before coming and we’ll set a time.
Do you serve clients in English and Spanish?
Both. The same person takes care of you in whichever you prefer, and your documents get explained in the language you actually understand them in.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the service and on the shape your case is in: a straightforward return is not three years of back filings. We don’t publish prices because a number on its own says nothing before anyone has seen the paperwork. Call, tell us what you have, and we give you the price before we start.
Do I have to come to the office?
For notarizing, yes: the signature happens in front of the notary. Everything else can be arranged by phone or WhatsApp, and documents work as sharp photos or digital files.
Where do I start?
Call or message on WhatsApp and describe your case in your own words. You don’t need to know what the service is called: in two minutes we’ll tell you which one it is and what to bring.
Bookkeeping for your business
Do you work with QuickBooks?
Yes. If you already use it, we work with what you have; and if you don’t use it, you don’t need to buy it for us to keep your books.
What is bank reconciliation and why does it matter?
It’s matching your books against what the bank says, transaction by transaction. Without that step the numbers can look right and be wrong — and you find out in April.
Do I get financial statements?
Yes: financial statements and reports for whatever period you need. They’re what the bank asks for when you apply for a loan or a line of credit.
Do you handle accounts payable and receivable?
Yes. Who you owe, who owes you and since when. That’s what keeps you from running out of cash with the business full of work.
Do you file sales tax?
Yes, when your business sells something subject to sales tax. It gets prepared and filed along with the rest of your reports for the period.
My books are a mess. Can they be fixed?
Yes, and it’s more common than it looks. We go period by period, reclassify what’s in the wrong place and bring them current. The further back it goes the more work it is, but it gets done.
What does business consulting cover?
Sitting down with your numbers and talking through what you’re deciding: whether hiring makes sense, whether changing entity makes sense, where your margin is going. It is not legal advice.
Income taxes
What returns do you prepare?
Personal ones and business ones: LLC, corporation, partnership and self-employed. If you have a business, there is usually a business return and yours, and they are worth looking at together.
Can you fix a return that was already filed?
Yes, with an amended return. Bring a copy of the one that was filed and the documents that were missing or came out wrong.
A letter from the IRS showed up. Will you look at it?
Yes. Bring it complete, with all its pages. We read it together and tell you what it’s asking for and how long you have to answer.
I’m being audited. Can you help?
We help you understand what the IRS is asking for, gather and organize the documents and answer within the deadline. If your case needs legal representation, we say so plainly instead of leaving you halfway.
Do you apply for ITINs?
Yes. The ITIN is requested from the IRS and is normally submitted together with the return. On the call we tell you which documents your case needs.
What is tax planning?
It’s looking at the numbers before the year closes, not in April when nothing can be done. It tells you what you’re going to owe and lets you decide, in time, the things that actually change the result.
Open or close your company
Do you handle both the registration and the EIN?
Both. Registering with the state of Florida and applying for the EIN with the IRS are part of the same job: we don’t leave you with a registered company and no number.
Are state registration and the EIN the same thing?
No. Registration is with the state of Florida and it’s what creates the company. The EIN is the number the IRS issues, and it’s what you’ll be asked for to open the bank account, hire and file taxes. Two separate steps, and you need both.
What kinds of company can you open?
LLC, corporation and partnership. Which one fits depends on how much you expect to bill, whether you have partners and how you want the profits taxed — that’s the conversation on the first call.
Payroll for your employees
Can you run payroll and the bookkeeping together?
Yes, and it’s the practical way: what you pay your people already lands in the books without being entered twice, and at year end there aren’t two versions of the same figure to reconcile.
Notary public
The document is in Spanish and I don’t read it well. Will you explain it?
We explain in English what is happening in the notarial act and what you are signing, even if the document is in Spanish. What the notary cannot do is advise you on whether signing it is a good idea — that is legal advice.
Document translation
Do you translate both ways?
Yes: Spanish into English and English into Spanish. Tell us who you’re handing it to, because that decides which language it has to end up in.
Your question isn’t here?
Call and we’ll answer it on the same call. If it needs paperwork, we’ll tell you which to bring.
